How to search a court case by party name
Verified against the live portal — 23 Jul 2026On CourtWatch, choose the state, district and court complex, enter the party's name, and the cases in that court's index appear — filter by year or by pending/disposed. Open a result to see the parties, the case number and the CNR, and track it from there. Most people do not hold a CNR or a case number — they hold a name. "Sharma vs Verma, somewhere in Saket." Party-name search is built for exactly that starting point, and its one weakness is worth understanding before you type: names repeat, so the search is really a two-step — find the candidates, then confirm the right one.
Pick the court location
Courts index cases per complex, so the search starts with State and District, then the Court Complex where the matter is filed (and a specific court within it, if you know one). If you are not sure of the complex, search the likelier one first — each complex keeps its own index, so a case does not appear in a complex it was not filed in.
Enter the name, then narrow
Type the party's name as the court records it. Two optional filters do most of the disambiguation work: Year, and Status — the search shows pending matters by default, with disposed available when you need history.
Confirm the case and track it
Results come grouped by court establishment, each row carrying the parties, case number, status, and the next or last hearing date. Open a row to see the fuller picture — including the CNR, which settles identity beyond doubt when namesakes crowd the list. From the same preview, Track puts the case on your board: dates, updates and WhatsApp alerts from then on.

How do I find the right case when many people share the name?
Add the year and status filters first, then open the likely rows — the parties and the CNR on the preview settle it. A name can repeat across a complex; a CNR never repeats anywhere.
Why does a case I know exists not show up?
Three usual reasons: it was filed in a different court complex (each complex has its own index), the name is recorded with a different spelling, or it sits under the other status — a disposed matter will not appear in the default pending view.
Do I need to solve a captcha to search by name?
Usually not. CourtWatch answers from its own records where it can, and when the court site is searched live, the captcha is solved for you — a manual confirmation appears only as a rare fallback.
How many searches does the free plan include?
Ten court-record searches a month. Tracked cases do not spend searches — once a case is on your board, its updates come to you.
